Our delegation to the 2016 State Council of the League of Women Voters of Alabama. Current President (2017-2019) Louvenia Graham and Secretary Anne Permaloff are the second and first from the right.

Mayoral candidates in the last election being briefed on the rules before the Candidates' Forum co-sponsored by our league. A separate forum was held for the City Council candidates.

We register votes and help them to better understand the voter registration and voting processes.

In the 2016 elections President Graham worked our registration desk at a regional youth conference at a Montgomery church. Other registration and voter service that year included working at Faulkner University and the Jones Law School, the Montgomery Regional Office for the Alabama School for the Deaf and Blind, and with other groups.

We also invite speakers to our meetings to better inform ourselves on policy issues and problems facing our community.

In the past year speakers have included the Secretary of State on current voter and election laws, Senator Dial on the reapportionment process in Alabama, representatives of Alabama Arise and Alabama Appleseed on current legislative reform issues, and a political scientist discussing the common philosophical base of liberalism and conservatism and current reinterpretations of that common base.

Kevin Miller, General Manager of the Montgomery Area Transit System, will speak at the October 18, 2017 General Meeting. Topic: The City Bus System Today.

Journalist Ken Hare will speak at the November 15, 2017 General Meeting on the topic Journalism Today.

And we also have fun at our meetings and events!
